Domain Name: What are the valid characters for a domain
name and how long can it be? How long can a domain name be?
Is "http://www" part of the domain name?
The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen
"-". Other special characters like the underscore "_" or an
exclamation mark "!" are NOT permitted.
A domain name can be up to 26 characters long -- including the 4 characters used to
identify the Top Level Domain (.NET, .COM, .ORG, .EDU or .GOV).
http://www.example.com is a uniform resource locator (URL) used by WWW browsers to find
documents and resources on the WWW. It IS NOT a domain name (though a domain name is
necessarily part of a URL).

Website Consultation
The first step in developing a website is to call and speak to one of our web
specialists. We will then schedule a one hour free consultation to help you evaluate your
needs and discuss possible approaches to designing your website. If additional meeting
time is necessary, the cost is $50/hour.
Website Design
BCD has graphic artists who can help you create an attractive and informative website.
Design services are available at a cost of $100/hour.
Website Creation
BCD can implement your design in HTML, the language of the World Wide Web, at a cost of
$50/hour. This includes such services as scanning photos, your logo or other graphics,
converting graphic files from other formats into GIF or JPEG format, creating forms and
standard CGI scripts. Estimates of page creation costs are available at no charge --
please bring us your ideas and we will give you a written estimate. Additional
capabilities are also available, such as Java programming, audio, online transactions and
"shopping carts." Custom programming is available at a cost of $75/hour.
If you would like your website to be accessible as www.yourcompany.com,
the domain name yourcompany.com must be unique and registered with the
InterNIC, the organization that controls domain names.
When your domain name is registered, we will set up two email aliases of your choice,
such as info@yourcompany.com and sales@yourcompany.com and
direct them to the email address of your choice. Additional aliases are available for
$5/each one-time setup.
Website Hosting
BCD has several rate schedules for web page hosting. Level 1 (Standard) is designed
for small sites, typically 5 pages or less, Level 2 (Domain1) is for larger
websites or those that require frequent updates, Level 3 (Domain 2) is for larger
websites or those that require frequent updates along with online order forms and full ftp
access. Level 4 (Secure
Server) is for larger websites or those that require frequent updates along with
online order forms/data base systems, ftp access and secure transaction server.
Level 1: Standard Website
This plan includes the following services:
- FREE one-hour consultation
- Web page hosting on our server
- FREE registration for your site in 5 of the most popular Internet search engines,
ensuring that customers will find your site
- A FREE listing/link for your business in our New Member Directory ($120/year value)
Rates:
- One-time $50 setup fee
$25/month for up to 5 pages*
$10/month for each additional page (up to 10 pages)
$5/month for each additional page thereafter
* A "page" is the amount of material that would normally fit on an 8
1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. BCD has final say on what constitutes a
"page."
This rate is only available on a 12-month basis.
Advance payment of 3 months receives a 5% discount.
Advance payment of 6 months receives a 10% discount.
Level 2: Domain 1 Website
This plan includes the following services:
- FREE Two-hour consultation
- Web page hosting on our server
- Text changes to your website once a month (up to 1/2 hour labor)
- Web Page Counter
- FREE registration for your site in 10 of the most popular Internet search engines,
ensuring that customers will find your site
- A listing/link for your business in The BCD Online ($300/year
value)
- A listing/link for your business in our New Member Directory ($120/year value)
Rates:
- One-time $50 setup fee
$50/month for up to 10 Pages*
$10/month for each additional page (up to 10 pages)
$5/month for each additional page thereafter

- A FREE listing/link for your business in The BCD Online ($300/year value)
- A FREE listing/link for your business in our New Member Directory ($120/year value)
- Local exposure in BCD print advertising, seminars, computer shows, direct mail pieces,
etc.
Rates:
- One-time $100 site setup fee
One-time $100 domain name setup fee (waived if you already have a domain name in use at
BCD ONLINE)
$100/month for up to 5O meg of disk space and 1 gig/month data transfer. Additional data
transfer is billable at $.05/meg
Additional units of 5 meg are available at $25/month and include an extra 1/2 gig/month of
data transfer
- This rate is only available on a 12-month, prepaid basis.
Level 4: Domain 3 Secure Website
This plan includes the following services:
- FREE Three-hour consultation
- Web page hosting on our server

$150/month for up to 75 meg of disk space and 1 gig/month data transfer. Additional data
transfer is billable at $.05/meg
Additional units of 5 meg are available at $25/month and include an extra 1/2 gig/month of

BCD ONLINE reserves the right to change rates with 30 days notice, and to refuse any
material for hosting that we deem objectionable.
There is another way to advertise on the web without the cost and effort of creating a
full home page. BCD maintains directories (BCD ONLINE & FAX IT NOW!) of
businesses located in LA County and O.C. For a minimal yearly fee, you can have your
business card listed on the appropriate directory page. If you have a BCD
Fax It Now! account, you
receive one Directory Listing on bcdonline.com at no charge.
All rates are per year and include set-up costs. Changes to posted ads will be
charged at $15/change.
Directory Card Listing: $150/year Limited time only
This is the most economical way to place your name in front of millions of Internet
users. This service includes your company's name, address and phone. (Business Card Size
Ad)
Extended Directory Listing: $600/year Now only $350.00
This allows you to provide a business card size ad on bcdonline
Linked Directory Listing: $150-$600/year
If you have a World Wide Web page already prepared and located on another server, we
will setup your company business card on our directory and link to your page. additional
$55/year for none BCD members. When users "click" on your name, they will be
taken directly to your page for more information.
