Information Sources

The most efficient way that BCD ONLINE can provide you with information is through our World Wide Web pages. From most web browser, go to our home page, which is at the URL (address) http://www.bcdonline.com where you'll find a link labeled INFO at the top of the page. Please check the announcements regularly -- this is the most efficient way we can give you information about upcoming events, new software that's available, and other items of general interest.

Other links on the home page are SERVICES, where you can follow the links to lots of other information specific to BCD ONLINE and Fax It Now!

If you have questions for us, the best way to ask them is via email. Please send them to BCD, and we will generally respond within 24 hours. We also send email to customers, both individually and as a group, on a regular basis. Please check your email regularly!

Technical Support

BCD provides telephone support at no extra charge for basic technical support. If you have any trouble connecting or using mail, please contact the BCD Help Line at (562) 500-1161 Please leave a message and someone will normally return your call within an hour or two unless it is after 5pm or before 8am.

Basic Technical Support includes helping you get online and configure your email program so that you can take advantage of these Internet services. However, if you have questions about how to use these programs, or other programs that access the Internet, that is no longer Basic Support. There are Help files with most of the applications that we distribute, and a Eudora (email) manual can be found on the World Wide Web on our New User Documentation page. If you would like to have phone support on these programs, this falls under Extended Technical Support and there is a charge of $20/hour for this service. Our technical support personnel will determine if your questions fall under Basic or Extended support, inform you if a charge is appropriate, and keep track of time and charges. In order to take advantage of Extended support, you must provide a Visa or MasterCard number. The minimum charge is $20, and that will cover one hour of Extended phone support.

Invoicing and Renewals

Your service period is for (12 months.)and begins on the day you first view your site on line weather in construction mode or in the process of design. You will automatically be billed after the 12 months have ended unless an E-mail is received within a 30 day period of the ending date. Please make sure you send your payment early so that we receive it by the due date shown on the invoice -- this will ensure that you don't experience the inconvenience of having your account deactivated!

If you would like to have your service automatically charged to your Visa or MasterCard, we must have a signed Credit Card Authorization form on file. That form can be downloaded, or just send us email and we will mail it to you.

Passwords and Security

While many people think that a password and account security is only important to someone who has "secret" or "private" information in his or her account, its importance goes far beyond that. If someone gets access to your account and uses it for illegal purposes, YOU are the person that the authorities will come to when investigating that crime. If someone uses your account to post information in newsgroups, or to send email, the world will assume that YOU wrote those things and that YOU are responsible for their contents. In order to prevent these situations, we would request that you follow these guidelines:

  • NEVER give your password to another individual or allow anyone else to access your account, unless you are willing to take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for what they do. Remember that they, in turn, can give that password to other people who you may not even know. If you allow other members of your family to access your account, please make sure they read this memo and understand its significance.
  • If your BCD account is a company account, this sheet should be reproduced and distributed to all authorized users. If a company employee with account access is terminated or leaves the company, you are responsible for informing us that you need a new password and one will be issued.
  • Please put the password notification form in a safe, private place, if you feel that you must have a written record of your password. We would prefer that you memorize your password and destroy the notification form. A password that is committed to memory is more secure than one that is written down since it reduces the number of people that might have an opportunity to see it. If your computer is in a secure location, you should be able to store the password in your connectivity software. If your computer is not secure, do not maintain an electronic version of your password..
  • If you have any reason to think that an unauthorized individual knows your password or has used your account, contact BCD IMMEDIATELY.

Other Customer Responsibilities

As a BCD customer, there are a few rules that you should follow to be a good citizen of the net. Here are a few of the most important ones; this list may grow as others become relevant!

  • If you are participating in USENET Newsgroups, please read the postings in the group news.announce.newusers to find out what sorts of things are NOT acceptable in news postings. Of major importance are rules against advertising in most groups, and the rule that only information which is relevant to a specific group should be posted there.
  • If you are sharing your account with one or more other individuals, only one of you should be logged in at any given time.

Anonymous FTP Services

BCD has an anonymous ftp server that you can use for file transfers. If someone wants to send you a large file, it is more efficient to do it this way rather than through email. Please call for more information about a ftp account setup.

If you would like to have files available on a long-term basis for anonymous FTP, we will create a directory for you under the FTP directory and put your files there. The cost is $1/meg/month with a minimum of $5/month.

World Wide Web Pages

BCD has many plans under which you can have your own home page / web site. In both cases, BCD has sole access to the pages on our server -- the files that you would like posted should be given to us through email, ftp or on a disk.

  • Personal Web Pages are available for $5/month, plus a $25 setup fee. This assumes that you provide an html document and gif files, and does not include page development. These are meant to be pages about people, not advertisements for companies, and are limited to a single page. Additional pages are available at $5/month for each page. Changes to your pages are billed at $10/change. If you take our HTML workshop, the setup fee is waived. BCD reserves the right to refuse to post any content we deem objectionable.
  • Commercial Web Pages are available for as low as $50/month for up to 5 pages, and additional pages are $10/month for each page. The setup fee depends on the form in which you provide the material and how much work must be done to prepare the html documents. These pages include a link in our BCD Online, and, if appropriate, a link in one or more of our hot pages and new site links etc...
